Patrick McNamara Photography bio picture
  • Welcome

Hi everyone, I'm Patrick McNamara and I am a wedding and portrait photographer based on the southern Maine seacoast. I have traveled all over New England for the past 15 years capturing weddings and portraits, too numerous to count (seriously, I've tried). I also keep a busy schedule shooting fine art photography as well as commercial assignments, and my blog is a great place to find out what's going on in my life professionally and personally. If you are on your quest searching for a photographer for your upcoming nuptials, this is a great place to research my shooting style, what influences me and who I am as a person. I look forward to sharing my experiences with you and encourage you to leave behind some comments to share with me.

Kaitlyn and Justin at Stage Neck Inn, York, Maine Wedding Photographer

Kaitlyn and Justin met in the sweetest way possible—a high school dance! The couple, who are both from Watertown, New York, held their coastal Maine wedding at the Stage Neck Inn in York. Kate’s family had been vacationing in Maine since she was 8 and the couple got engaged in Maine, making a destination wedding in the Pine Tree State an easy decision.

Justin surprised Kate on the day of the wedding by having one of her bridesmaids deliver a letter every hour leading up to the ceremony for the nine years they had been together. These nine letters each highlighted one year of their relationship, and a small gift accompanied each letter.

“We had amazing weather on our wedding day,” Kate says. “It wasn’t too hot or too cold!” While Kate relaxed with her bridesmaids before the ceremony, the guys headed to Ogunquit to play football on the beach. The couple were wed at Saint Christopher’s Church in York and took a trolley to their Stage Neck Inn reception.

The wedding day was filled with personality. The couple showed a slide show of their lives at the cocktail party and gave their guests homemade applesauce as favors. Sail boat escort cards and reception centerpieces arranged in Cape Cod baskets paid homage to the coastal theme.

Megan & Ryan at LaBelle Winery, New Hampshire Wedding Photographer

Megan and Ryan love to spend the Fourth of July holiday at Ryan’s family lake house in Penn Yan, New York. The couple decided to pay tribute to Ryan’s New York and Megan’s New Hampshire upbringing by getting married at LaBelle Winery and Amherst, New Hampshire. Ryan’s father is from the Finger Lakes region of New York State, which is where LaBelle gets their grapes to make their wines.

It was a gorgeous day to be married in a vineyard, and I had a blast photographing the spectacular scenery as well as the inner workings of the winery.  I love an adventurous couple willing to think out of the box and their suggestion to shoot formals in the wine cellar really paid off with unique surroundings and beautiful lighting.  I could have spent two hours just exploring all of the possibilities there.

Megan and Ryan’s wedding colors of green and purple perfectly captured the essence of their vineyard wedding. I particularly liked the wine barrel they asked guests to sign. What a great memento!  Congratulations Megan and Ryan!

Christine & Brooke at the York Harbor Reading Room, Maine Wedding Photographer

Christine and Brooke had met before they were introduced, but they didn’t realize it until their third date.

An elementary school teacher by day, Christine used to work part-time on the weekends at the Middle East Nightclub in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It gave her the opportunity to enjoy live music, something she loves.

Brooke was the first customer of the night back in 2005. “He was a friend of the sound staff who vouched for him and said he was a good guy,” Christine says. At the end of the night, Brooke asked for Christine’s number, which he wrote down on a monthly music calendar from the club and still has in a box called “keepers.”

“On our third date we discovered that we had actually met three years before at our hairdresser’s,” Christine says. “We were both having our hair done on the same day, and our hairdresser, Shelley, had mentioned to me what a nice guy he was.”

Brooke, who is originally from New York City, and Christine, who grew up just outside of Boston, decided to get married in their favorite vacation spot—southern Maine. Brooke proposed on New Year’s Eve on the Marginal Way in Ogunquit after dinner at Five-O. “Brooke knelt down in the snow under the moonlight and proposed,” Christine says. “We knew right away that we wanted to share our love of Maine and the ocean with our friends.”

The moment they stepped inside the York Harbor Reading Room, they knew it was where they wanted to have their ceremony. “I can’t imagine a more beautiful spot for us to celebrate and share this moment with our family and friends,” Christine says.

The couple had always planned to write their own vows, but Brooke suggested reading each others vows to each other on the Wednesday before the wedding. “I was a little hesitant at first, because I was worried I would cry, but he told me he really wanted to do it. He wanted to get away from the cookie cutter wedding and make ours different and our own,” Christine says. “Looking back, he was right, and I’m so glad we did it that way. It made our vows like letters to each other.”

Of all the weddings I’ve photographed over the years, I’ve never seen another couple read the other persons vows out loud during the ceremony. I thought it was such a great idea. Kudos to this wonderful and unique couple for making their wedding ceremony their own. I had a lot of fun working with Christine and Brooke, and I hope you enjoy seeing the images of their day below.

Lauren & Jeff at Hackmatack Playhouse in Berwick, Maine Wedding Photographer

Lauren, from Wells, Maine, and Jeff from Elliot, Maine met through family and friends. “Almost two years ago he contacted me,” Lauren says. “He was nothing I thought I wanted and everything I realized I needed.” The couple went on their first date the night before Lauren started graduate school.

The couple, who now live in North Berwick, decided to get married close to home at the Hackmatack Playhouse in Berwick. “We chose this venue because we could have a tent and there were no time restrictions,” Lauren says. “It’s simply a beautiful location!

The Hackmatack Playhouse is located on a family farmstead. The theater is in an old barn and the grounds are stunning. How often does a photographer get to shoot a Maine wedding where there are gigantic buffalo grazing in the background? I had so much fun capturing Lauren and Jeff’s celebration in this fun and unique setting. I hope my photos entice you to check the place out for yourself! Elizabeth & Jason at York Harbor Inn, Maine Wedding Photographer

Elizabeth and Jason first met at her cousin’s wedding in 2010. But it wasn’t until they met again at Elizabeth’s second cousin’s wedding in 2012 that they connected.

Elizabeth, from Boston, and Jason, from Buxton, wanted to find a location for their Maine wedding that was easy on their guests’ travel plans. Many were coming from Boston and Portland, and the York Harbor Inn was right in the middle.

“We both wanted to get married by the water,” Elizabeth says. “We chose the York Harbor Inn because we loved the wedding coordinators and felt comfortable with the venue.”

I couldn’t agree more! I love shooting wedding at the York Harbor Inn. Not only are the people fabulous to work with, the venue offers beautiful views and lots of gorgeous spots for portraits. The inn’s Hartley Mason Reserve was the perfect spot for this couple’s outside ceremony, with the Atlantic Ocean as their backdrop. Mother Nature cooperated with us, and gave Elizabeth and Jason a beautiful Maine wedding day.

I had a blast shooting Elizabeth and Jason’s wedding. They were a fun couple, and they didn’t stop smiling all day long! I hope you enjoy this small sampling of their wedding day photos!
